Carpet tiles will have arrows on the back that indicate the direction of the carpet pile. The manufacturer recommends how to orient the tiles. Carpet does have a direction usually indicated on the carpet backing. Mix carpet tiles from different packs to account for dye lot variations.

Install carpet pad so that any seams will be at right angles to those in the carpet. Staple the seam of the pad alternating staples so that they aren t beside one another. Obviously if your carpet has a pattern seaming two pieces requires careful attention to matching the pattern between adjoining pieces. Use a staple hammer tacker to fasten the carpet pad against the edge of the tack strip. Any two carpet tiles facing in different directions will appear to be slightly different colors.
